Episode 55: We were lied to!

The boys are back for another vert! This time it’s Narwhal. Josh was too lazy to come up with a clever pun title for it though… Yea, he’s the worst. In this show we discuss:

AB-Inbev had some layoffs but no idea how many or where

Anheuser-Busch laid off an undisclosed number of employees in St. Louis this month amid declining sales volume in the United States.

Pabst wasn’t sold to the Russians. We were lied to!

Whoops, file this one in the retraction column. Apparently the Russians aren’t actually buying Pabst Brewing Company. In September, it was widely reported that Russia’s Oasis Beverage was teaming up with TSG Consumer Partners, a New York-based private equity firm, and beverage entrepreneur Eugene Kashper to buy the Pabst brand from C. Dean Metropoulos for upwards of $750 million.

Seahawks watering down beer and the NFC West.

Stop me if you have heard this one before: If you buybeer at a sporting event, it might be watered down. People have been making that assumption for years — heck, for as long as I can remember I have been hearing that rumor. Turns out it could be true! The Seattle Seahawks have been outed by KOMO news in Seattle.

We didn’t really cover this but it is a good read if you have the time.

It was recently announced that Anheuser-Busch plans to acquire Bend, Oregon’s 10 Barrel Brewery, once again firing up the craft vs. crafty debate. The term “crafty” here is a reference to a big brewery’s attempt at masquerading as a small craft brewery, and it was used most prominently by the Brewers Association in a press release entitled “Craft vs. Crafty: A Statement from the Brewers Association,” which they issued in December of 2012.
